Empowering Girls, Strengthening Communities—One Hygiene Pack at a Time

On a bright and hopeful afternoon of May 19th, 2025, the Lukosi Central committee, gathered at Salvation Army Church, Lukosi for a spirited and focused meeting. With World Menstrual Hygiene Day just around the corner, the atmosphere was filled with purpose, unity, and a shared commitment to health, dignity, and empowerment.

This year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed globally on May 28th, is more than just a calendar event for the Lukosi community. It’s a promise—to restore dignity, to shatter stigma, and to ensure that no child misses school because of their period. The upcoming event will impact over 500 boys and girls, with the distribution of sanitary pads and underwear, and delivery of life-changing health services.

The Central Committee meeting, chaired by Moses Temoi, brought together a dedicated group of alumni, teachers, church, Mary Biketi foundation, Community health promoters (CHP), and community members who exemplify the true spirit of Lukosi. Those in attendance included:

  • Betty Butembu – Captain, Salvation Army Church
  • Everline Mnyange – Secretary & Community Health Promoter
  • Emmanuel Sitoki, Dickson Wanjala, James Marango, Francis Wasike – Alumni
  • Tumwa Saul, Madam Maurine – Teachers
  • Isaya Ngeywa, Davis Keboi – Community Members
  • Francis Wasike – Also leading the media and documentation efforts

Focus Areas:

  • Sourcing and distribution of sanitary pads
  • Mobilization of medical personnel and supplies
  • Community outreach and engagement
  • Planning entertainment: music, skits, and student-led educational performances
  • Assignment of responsibilities for logistics, media, volunteer coordination, and stakeholder invitations

As preparations continue, collection drives for sanitary towels and medical kits are in full swing. The alumni media team, led by Francis Wasike, is gearing up to spread the word through social media, posters, and storytelling that captures the heart of the mission.

The team also plans a comprehensive medical camp to serve the Lukosi community, including:

  • General health checkups
  • Deworming for children
  • Nutritional guidance
  • Menstrual hygiene education sessions
  • Cancer screening

With the help of health professionals, volunteers, and partner organizations, the event will combine health, hope, and healing in one powerful day of service.

We invite all alumni, well-wishers, and community stakeholders to join hands in making this vision a reality. Whether you contribute sanitary products, offer volunteer support, or help spread the message, your involvement matters.

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart… for God loves a cheerful giver.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:7 (ESV)

As the big day approaches, we’ll be sharing updates, photos, and stories from the ground. This is more than an event—it’s a movement of compassion, dignity, and empowerment.

Let’s empower girls. Let’s uplift communities. Let’s change lives—one hygiene pack at a time.
