Hopes Message to Lukosi Alumni – Pilgrims of Hope

Dear Lukosi Alumni Family,

We come before God with hearts full of gratitude and joy for the grace He poured upon us during the Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 celebration. Your presence, prayers, contributions, and unwavering support made this mission not just possible, but deeply impactful.

A Historic First: Lukosi Primary Hosts Its Inaugural Menstrual Hygiene Day

On May 28, 2025, Lukosi Primary School made history by hosting its first-ever Menstrual Hygiene Day, a milestone since its establishment in 1988. This transformative event was spearheaded by the Lukosi Alumni Association, the Mary Biketi Foundation, the school administration, local authorities, the local church, dedicated community health promoters, and the Board of Management for both Junior and Primary Schools.

With a shared commitment to supporting and empowering students, the event became a beacon of hope, fostering awareness, dignity, and holistic well-being for the entire school community. The main objective was to provide essential hygiene products to underprivileged students — girls received sanitary pads, while boys were gifted supportive innerwear, ensuring dignity and comfort for all.

Miss Mary Biketi, the esteemed guest of honor, was welcomed with grandeur and heartfelt celebration. Pupils from Scouts and Girl Guides, alongside the Salvation Army full band, led a spectacular parade. Her entourage represented Kenyan ethnic communities from across the nation, embodying the spirit of inclusivity that defined the occasion.

The program began at 10:00 AM, guided by School Principal Irene Wanyama and Alumni Chairman Peter Gacheru. Miss Mary Biketi formally signed the guest book and planted a tree within the school compound — a gesture of growth, resilience, and a future rooted in hope.

Twenty alumni attended, including Janet Makokha and Janet Kamau, who honored their former teachers and shared their journeys from students to medical professionals. Alumni from Kenya Power, KRA, and other corporate and government sectors also attended, illustrating the long-term impact of quality schooling.

Mr. Hilary Opicho, an alumni medic from Embu, appealed for one-on-one mentorship, saying: My sister, when teachers adopted one soul at a time, they created a lasting impact. We urge you to embrace this approach—for the betterment of both the girls and boys here today. We appeal that you adopt this school!

Chairman Peter Gacheru recounted applying to many partners — and praised Miss Biketi for stepping forward. Certificates of appreciation were presented to key supporters including Janet Makokha, Janet Kamau, Dickson Wanjala, and Calton Simiyu for their dedication.

Students’ Needs & Commitments

Pupils voiced urgent needs: improved classrooms, modern sanitation facilities, a perimeter fence for safety, additional sports equipment, and a school bus. In response, Miss Biketi pledged to initiate the construction of the school gate and to work with local authorities on future projects.

She also ensured that all pupils would receive breakfast on May 29. Hon. Keter donated Ksh. 20,000 to provide refreshments for students — a generous gesture that added to the day’s celebrations.

Challenges Identified

The administration highlighted a heartbreaking situation: some girls, out of desperation, share or sell sanitary pads to support siblings or secure meals. This reality emphasizes the urgency for continued intervention, awareness, and sustainable support.

Media & Impact

The event captured national attention: Citizen TV, KTN TV, and Mitume Radio (Catholic Diocese of Kitale) featured the celebration in prime news hours. The coverage amplified the message of empowerment and community-driven change.

Chairman Gacheru announced a follow-up meeting within two weeks to evaluate impact and plan next steps. Lukosi Primary School’s first Menstrual Hygiene Day was more than an event — it was a turning point: a moment of unity, compassion, and transformation that ignited hope for pupils and the wider community.

Together with alumni and partners such as the Mary Biketi Foundation, we move forward to create a healthier, stronger, and more empowered generation.
