Celebrating Our Volunteers, Our Journey, Our Impact

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY

Dear members and the entire Lukosi Alumni Family,

Welcome to this special International Volunteer Day edition of The BEAT – Lukosi Alumni! Today, we celebrate YOU — the heartbeat of our community. We honour your time, your sacrifices, your passion, and the love you continue to pour into Lukosi.

As the world marks International Volunteer Day, we reflect on our own powerful journey: the courageous alumni who stepped up, the community projects we revived, the girls and boys we empowered, and the spirit of service that has reunited us after many years.

Every milestone we celebrate today has one foundation — you, the volunteer. Your commitment makes everything possible.

OUR LUKOSI JOURNEY UPDATE – 2020 TO 2025

From rebuilding school pride to establishing Menstrual Hygiene Day, supporting pupils’ registration and teachers with cooking gas refilling, launching mentorship and career programs, reviving sports, and nurturing unity across villages — Lukosi Alumni volunteers have shown the power of walking as one.

This year alone, alumni have been busy:

  • Supporting MH Day 2025, touching over 600 lives
  • Building momentum for Lukosi Community Health Week 2025
  • Empowering pupils through mentorship and career talks
  • Supporting the “Journey of Gratitude, Grace & Growth”
  • Leading fundraising, welfare, media engagement, and community mobilisation
  • Showing up for one another in times of joy or difficulty

To every alumnus who has taken a shift, made a call, sent a message, given a coin, or offered a shoulder — thank you for embodying the spirit of Lukosi and showing such heart and unity.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2026 — LUKOSI INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER YEAR

As the UN declares 2026 the International Volunteer Year, we at Lukosi Alumni proudly join the global celebration.

Our preparations begin today and continue into the new year with:

  • Stories of alumni impact
  • A new mentorship rollout
  • Expanded community outreach
  • More structured MH Day Celebration
  • A special alumni webinar on leadership & service
  • First alumni investment vehicle
  • Enhanced village and sub-committee engagement

Together, we will continue lifting our school and community — not separately, but as one body, one beat.

Watch this space — great things are coming.

A RECORD-BREAKER IN OUR MIDST

Just like FIFA volunteers making history across borders, Lukosi has its own record-breakers. Alumni who are changing the narrative in their fields — from engineering, teaching, health, social work, leadership, entrepreneurship, public service, the diaspora, and community organizing.

From you linking Lukosi to national networks, to village captains mobilizing silently, to alumni stepping forward with courage — your stories inspire the next generation.

Every one of you is a living reminder that Lukosi rises because you chose to rise.

TO OUR ENTIRE VOLUNTEER FAMILY

We celebrate you.
We honour your sacrifices.
We cherish your unity.
We need your continued presence.

Let us keep the spirit of service alive. Let us continue writing this story — together.

Upcoming Event: International Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) 2025 – Lukosi Chapter

📅 Date: May 28, 2025
🏫 Organized by: Lukosi Primary School Alumni Association (LPSAA)

Breaking the Stigma: Empowering Girls & Boys on Menstrual Hygiene

Menstrual hygiene remains a major challenge in our society, often leading to school absenteeism among girls and negatively impacting their academic performance. Many girls experience stigma, teasing, and embarrassment when their uniforms get stained due to a lack of access to proper menstrual products.

To make a real impact:

✔ 300 girls will receive a three-month supply of sanitary pads. This support is particularly critical in May, a financially challenging period for many families, especially maize farmers who have spent heavily on farm inputs from January to early May, leaving limited resources for other essential needs.

✔ 250 boys will receive hygiene kits, including vests and underwear, promoting overall personal hygiene and inclusivity in health education.

At the Lukosi Primary School Alumni Association (LPSAA), we are committed to educating young girls and the community at large while restoring dignity through awareness and support.

This initiative extends beyond short-term solutions—while we will provide sanitary pads for three months, we recognize that sustainable change comes through education, open dialogue, and community engagement. Menstrual health is not just a women’s issue; men must also be active participants in breaking the stigma and promoting menstrual hygiene.
