On 28th April 2025, a heartwarming chapter was written in the story of Lukosi Primary School—a chapter defined by compassion, unity, and a shared commitment to restoring dignity to every child.
The Lukosi Alumni Committee, deeply moved by the pressing needs of over 300 girls and 250 boys at the school, had been tirelessly seeking support to provide sanitary pads for girls and underwear for boys—basic yet essential items that impact both health and confidence. Despite their efforts, the Alumni were constrained by limited resources.
Then, through a valuable connection by one of the members, a light shone through. The committee was linked to the Mary Biketi Foundation, a partner in purpose and compassion.
On that day, Alumni Chairperson Gacheru Peter, Treasurer Janet Makokha, and Member Mushila Victor convened a pivotal meeting at Gem Suites Hotel, Nairobi, with Mary Biketi, founder of the Mary Biketi Foundation. She was accompanied by a representative of the Ali B Foundation, another organization committed to uplifting communities.
The 90-minute session was more than a formal meeting—it was a sincere dialogue driven by urgency and hope. The outcome? A promise of partnership. A promise of action. A promise of dignity.
This verse came alive that day. What started as a plea for help became a powerful movement of giving back.
The love and dedication of the alumni group, alongside the kindness of Mary Biketi and the Ali B Foundation, will forever be remembered by the children of Lukosi.
We invite you—fellow alumni, well-wishers, and partners—to join this mission. Together, we can uplift lives, restore dignity, and inspire the next generation.
Let’s stand united for Lukosi Primary School. Because every child deserves support. Every child deserves to be seen.
← Back to BlogOn a bright and hopeful afternoon of May 19th, 2025, the Lukosi Central committee gathered at Salvation Army Church, Lukosi for a spirited and focused meeting. With World Menstrual Hygiene Day just around the corner, the atmosphere was filled with purpose, unity, and a shared commitment to health, dignity, and empowerment.
This year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28th) is more than a calendar event for Lukosi. It is a promise—to restore dignity, shatter stigma, and ensure that no child misses school because of their period.
The Central Committee meeting, chaired by Moses Temoi, brought together alumni, teachers, church leaders, community health promoters, and stakeholders in a united effort.
The alumni media team is actively documenting the journey to share stories of impact, hope, and transformation across the community.
This initiative is more than an event—it is a movement of compassion, dignity, and empowerment.
Let’s empower girls. Let’s uplift communities. Let’s change lives—one hygiene pack at a time.

← Back to BlogOn May 28, 2025, Lukosi Primary School made history by hosting its first-ever Menstrual Hygiene Day since its establishment in 1988. This transformative event was spearheaded by the Lukosi Alumni Association, the Mary Biketi Foundation, the school administration, local authorities, the church, community health promoters, and the Board of Management.
With a shared commitment to supporting and empowering students, the event became a beacon of hope—fostering awareness, dignity, and holistic well-being for the entire school community.
The main objective of this initiative was to provide essential hygiene products to underprivileged students. Girls received sanitary pads, while boys were gifted supportive innerwear—ensuring dignity and comfort for all.
Miss Mary Biketi, the guest of honor, was welcomed with grandeur. Pupils from the Scouts and Girl Guides, alongside the Salvation Army band, led a vibrant parade that filled the school with pride and unity.
Her entourage, representing diverse Kenyan communities, added a rich cultural dimension to the celebration—symbolizing inclusivity and togetherness.
At 10:00 AM, the event officially began. Guided by Principal Irene Wanyama and Alumni Chairman Peter Gacheru, Miss Biketi signed the guest book and planted a symbolic tree—representing growth, resilience, and hope.
Among the alumni present were Janet Makokha and Janet Kamau, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to their former teachers. Now medical professionals, they credited their success to the school’s foundation and encouraged current pupils to remain focused and hopeful.
Other alumni working in sectors such as Kenya Power, KRA, and various government institutions stood as living proof of the school’s lasting impact.
Mr. Hilary Opicho, an alumni medic from Embu, passionately appealed:
Chairman Peter Gacheru highlighted the effort behind securing support, noting that out of over 50 applications, only Miss Biketi responded. He commended her dedication and recognized key alumni contributors.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to:
In a powerful moment, pupils voiced their needs:
Moved by their determination, Miss Biketi pledged to construct the school gate and support future development projects in collaboration with local authorities.
Miss Biketi also ensured all pupils would receive breakfast the following day, emphasizing the importance of nutrition. Honorable Keter contributed Ksh. 20,000 for student refreshments.
The school highlighted a serious challenge—some girls are forced to share or sell sanitary pads to meet basic needs—underscoring the urgency for continued intervention.
The event gained national attention, featuring on Citizen TV, KTN, and Mitume Radio during prime news hours, amplifying its impact across the country.
As the day concluded, Chairman Peter Gacheru announced a follow-up meeting within two weeks to evaluate progress and plan ahead.
With strong alumni support and committed partners like the Mary Biketi Foundation, the future of Lukosi shines brighter than ever.
Together, we move forward—building a healthier, stronger, and empowered generation.
← Back to BlogDear Lukosi Alumni Family,
As we reflect on the journey we have walked together, we are reminded that Lukosi is more than a school—it is a foundation of character, resilience, and shared identity.
We are the pilgrims of hope, bound not only by memory but by responsibility. Every step we take beyond those school gates carries the spirit of Lukosi with us—into our families, our workplaces, and our communities.
Today, our mission is clearer than ever: to uplift the next generation, to support those still in school, and to ensure no child is left behind due to lack of basic needs or opportunity.
From mentorship to health initiatives, from infrastructure support to student welfare programs, every act of giving strengthens the legacy we inherited.
This year has already shown what is possible when we come together. Through collective effort, we have:
These are not just activities—they are signs of a living, active legacy.
The journey is far from over. There is still work to be done, and many lives still to touch. But we move forward with renewed strength, guided by unity and purpose.
To every alumnus near and far: your presence matters, your voice matters, and your contribution—no matter how small—is part of a greater story still unfolding.
Let us continue walking as pilgrims of hope, carrying forward the spirit of Lukosi with pride and purpose.
With gratitude and unity,
Lukosi Alumni Coordination Team
